Alfred becomes a B Corp

5th September 2023

We’re very proud to share the news that we are now B Corp certified.

It’s been our vision since day one to have a positive impact on the world – on our people, on the planet and on culture – so while we started the B Corp journey almost two years ago, our commitment to meaningful change is part of our DNA.

We’ve always believed that brands should do more than simply make stuff. We’ve worked with the likes of Fairtrade to highlight the urgent need to make our food system climate resilient, helped take non-dairy milk mainstream with Oatly, and successfully put pressure on Nando’s to improve their chicken welfare standards on behalf of World Animal Protection.

But whilst acting on behalf of our clients is a big part of the story, it is also about the standards we set ourselves as a business. From the suppliers and partners we work with and the way we contribute to the wider community, to how we create a fair, positive and inclusive culture for our team.

A few highlights this year have been introducing a raft of new family friendly policies including enhanced maternity, paternity, adoption and surrogacy leave and pay, working with youth empowerment organisation 20/20 Change, and introducing additional cost of living support for our team.

So why B Corp now? Well, we talk to clients everyday about how they should show up in the world, so we feel it’s right to hold ourselves accountable. There’s no higher standard for social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability and it’s continually measured. But we’re also motivated by the idea of joining a community of like-minded businesses who believe that profit and purpose are not mutually exclusive, instead a purposeful and positive business that contributes, is a driver for success.

We want to play our part in something bigger.

It’s been a huge team effort to get this far, as anyone who has been through the process will tell you, it’s no mean feat – there are no shortcuts! We have to give a big thank you to Andy Hawkins from Business on Purpose whose support helped us get here.

And this isn’t just the right thing to do. We know from our own research that businesses that have a positive social impact also perform better – and that means we can further invest in our team and share our profits.

We’ll be publishing our first impact report shortly which will reflect on the last year and set out our commitments for the year ahead. Getting certified is just the start of the journey.
