This week we discuss the latest news, trends and conversations from the world of FMCG and Retail. From plastic through to trends, check out the most talked about stories from the last week.

#PlasticNotFantastic
Are emojis encouraging our plastic habit? It seems Sky Ocean Rescue thinks so, with a new petition demanding the plastic cup and straw emoji be banned in a bid to save our oceans.

Experiences over buying stuff
Something us marketing people have talked about for years – we’d rather do something, than buy something. Rather than flooding social feeds with envy-inducing purchases, millennials are championing content that depicts their ‘grammable’ lifestyle.

The new sweet treat on the block
Forget the cronut, M&S has just launched the chouxnut. This éclair-doughnut hybrid is a doughnut-shaped choux pastry bun filled with creme patisserie. With M&S selling 30 eclairs every minute, these new sweet sensations are expected to fly off the shelf when they land this week.

Drink of the summer
With summer in our sights, bars are up-ing their frozen cocktail game. Inspired by the trend for Frosé last summer, bartenders are now playing around with different variations to keep us cool in summer ’18. Our pick of the bunch? This new frozen G&T thanks to Spanish bar Camino.
