The Week That Was: Games (07/12/18)
7th December 2018
The Games Awards celebrated this year’s amazing roster of games and looked to 2019 with a plethora of announcements and teases. God of War took the crown for Game of the Year and Red Dead Redemption 2 rode into the sunset with the most awards – four in total, including ‘Best Narrative’ and ‘Performance’ for leading man Roger Clarke (Arthur Morgan). Looking to the new, Far Cry New Dawn, Dragon Age 4, Crash Team Racing remaster, and Obsidian’s Other Worlds were announced, among a host of others!
Epic announced the developer friendly online PC games store, positioning itself as a new rival for Valve’s Steam platform. With an 88/12 percent revenue split, this means developers selling their games to be distributed on Epic’s platform will generate more profit, rather than the other way around – which is currently the case on Steam. Time will tell if Epic can truly rival the platform, as it launched during The Game Awards with a small roster and gamers like to keep their game libraries in one place as much as possible!
Souldja Boy – Would you buy a console from this man?
Souldja Boy has been selling his own games consoles, the ‘SouljaGame Console’ and ‘SouldjaGame Handheld’. Allegedly the Console can run: PlayStation, NEOGEO, PC, SEGA, GBA, and NES, while the handheld can run: Switch, 3DS, Vita, NEOGEO, GBC, Gameboy, GBA and comes with 3,000 built-in games… The discussion hasn’t exactly been positive, as the consoles seem to be unbranded, shoddy emulators developed by Chinese company: Anbernic.
